Athletics

Last week on Friday 16th of November, T.P.S (  Tamaki Primary School ) had their school athletics day.  Every year T.P.S have their school athletics as a fun way for all their year eight students to leave and students from the past to come back and support their house.

There are four different houses Tobruk, Benghazi, Alamein, Tripoli and they different colours to help represent their houses a bit more Tripoli is blue, Tobruk is red, Benghazi is green and Alamein is yellow.  I am in the Red team Tobruk, I think that my house is the best because we are one of the only two groups that have two recorded wins.  We had this event at the TPS field which was fulled with kids and parents running up and down it ( including teachers ) . We had four different sports that we did before running they were Standing jump, long jump, shot put and discus. My favourite sport out of all four was long jump because it involved my two favourite things running and jumping.

went up so did the length of the race it started at 15 meter and ended at 100 meter .  My first race of the day was a bit funny because all the thirteen old boys tied in the first race and were all laughing at the end because I was running with a cape on and it looked funny.  After our 100 meter race we started on our 400 meter races the year six's all the way upto year seven and eights. When the race first started I was in last place because I was only jogging and when I saw everyone else starting to get tired I started to sprint and ended up coming second place.

At the end of the day we had our final races for all the people that came first, second and third and our house chants. When we got to our house chants we were all putting 100%  effort into chanting as loud as we could, this was my favorite part of the day because people were happy and dancing.

Follow up reading tasks !

Today we had to do some follow up tasks for reading because this week for reading we have been reading about three men that mad a possum trap. They made the possum trap because they saw the damage that the possums were doing to the wilderness.  Here are some of the questions that I answered.

Identify the qualities of an" innovative designer "

1.  They have to be patient, because if they are patient they will get more facts and knowledge to be able to solve a problem with their invention.

3.  They have to be hard working, because if they aren't the problem won't be solved in the end.
4. They need creativity, so that it

What do we mean by " native bush " .
When people say they are going to the " native bush " or they are talking about the " native bush "  they are just talking about the forest. " Native Bush " is just another term for the forest. And when they say the " native" part they mean the native plants of the forest and the native trees and animals.

Is it important to look after the bush ? If so, whos job is it to look after it ?

I think that it is very important to protect the native bush because is we dont some of the people and kids in the future wont get to see the bush or any if its animals. I also think that it is very important to protect the native bush because its not only for us because its some animals home. And some of the animals that live in the native bush you cant find anywhere else.

I dont think that its only one person's job to look after the native bush but everyone that wants the next generations and the generation after that to see the bush and the animals that live in it.

Thinking about Bias

Today Room 9 was with our teacher Mrs Komor and we were learning about the world bias. The first thing that we got given was a sheet of paper with all the things that go into M&M's and the differences between normal M&M's and peanut M&M's.  When I say things that going to M&M's I mean the sugars and sodium that going to to and how much goes into it.

Then we got another sheet of paper that had someone else's opinion about M&M's on it like how they think that they are the best treat and how they think that they are healthy.  In my opinion I dont think that they are the best treat ever because I feel like there are better treats in the world or that have been made, and I like other lollies that are far more cheaper than M&M's.

Then we started to learn about the word "bias " and what it meant.  The word bias means rating something on how reliable and credible it is.So if you got any information from site that sometimes has true facts but it's not always true so you wouldn't want try it. Or if they have got any other information to back up what they are saying most of the time what they are trying is false not true.

In the moment ... Hail

I can hear the sound of a million tiny pieces of ice battering against the  roof.  I can hear the sounds of hail getting louder and louder, as if the chunks of ice were getting bigger and bigger. I can see millions of little chunks of ice splashing into the puddles as if they were bombs being dropped on a town. I can see birds and people  trying to find shelter anywhere they can as if the ice were bullets piercing their skin.  I can see giant dark clouds surrounding the world as if they were trying to get rid of all the light within a matter of minutes. I  see magnificent clouds surrounding the world as if they were going to attack their prey as fast as a cheetah running for it's life.

The large amount of hail stones are followed by a giant BOOM !! As thunder starts to creep its way into the mixture as more and more, heavy rain starts to pound down on the tin roof.  The rain starts to fall down from the sky more and more each time, as if it were a giant waterfall letting down all its water in a matter of seconds. The rain sounds like water rushing its way down a giant waterfall to freedom, ready to be reunited with the rest of the rain as if they were family.

Maths

Image result for maths
Today for maths I worked with my two friends ( Alo and Aja ) to work out some of our questions that we hadn't finished.  One of the questions that we helped each other to work out was " Paul has five different ways to get to school from his house. The length of each way is different the length of all the ways to school are 0.6 , 1.2, 0.9,
1.3, 0.3, 0.6 and 0.7 " .

The first thing that we did was plus 0.6 and 0.9 we decided to start with these two numbers randomly. 0.6 + 0.9 = 1.5 + 1.2 = 2.7 + 0.6 = 3.3 + 1.3 = 4.6 + 0.3 = 4.9 + 0.7 = 5.6 . This is how we solved " how far does paul travel within a week. We choose to answer the question like this because it was the easiest way for us to understand the problem and the easiest way for us to answer the question / problem. Something that I think we should do next time try and see how many different ways we can get the same answer just to try and double check that we got the right answer.

Maths Question

Today for maths me and my friends all got different answer on one of our questions. The question was  " 6.4 + 8.7 = " Me and my friends all got different answers someone got 2.5 and someone else got another answer. In the end we all ended up getting the same answer we ended up getting 15.1 and this is how we got our answer.

Image result for mathsWe added up all the tenths  in the numbers 8.7 and 6.4 which would be .7 and .4 . We added up these two numbers because we were all trying different ways to get the same answer. The answer to .7 + .4 = 1.1 and then we moved onto adding up the whole numbers which were 8. and 6. We took away one whole from eight and added it to the 6 wich made seven. And then we had 7 and 7 left so we added them up wich made fourteen and 14. + 1.1 = 15.1. Something that I got from doing this question was to work with other people and come together to try and get an answer that we all agree on.

Technological World , Pest free groups / Predator free

WALT :Technological world

This morning we had someone to come in and talk to us about pest free groups her name was Miss Treena. We got to learn about some of the animals that kill native New Zealand animals and other peoples opinions on how they feel about being pest free.

Image result for pest free groups
Some groups of people in New Zealand want New Zealand to be pest free by 2050, just to make sure that some of our native animals get to live past that year. But other people think that they are fine New Zealand and that we should treat animals that are called " Pests " with more respect.  We got the chance to write down our opinion on how we feel weather we should treat pests with more respect or get rid of them.

Image result for kiwi animal
I slightly agree / disagree with " we should treat more animals called " pests " with more
respect " . I agree because I think that all animals should be treated with respect because animals deserve just as much respect as humans have and that they should be treated the same way you would treat any  other person or pet. I disagree because although I think that all animals should be treated with respect, if they are killing or attacking native animals I think that it would be wrong. I think that it would be wrong to respect animals that are killing native animals because it is like discipline when they do something wrong the should take the consequences ( not being respected ) and when they are doing something good they get treated with respect.  I think that they should stop killing native animals because if they keep killing them they might go extinct people will never see them again and people in the future might never see them again.

We both liked this video because it involved the whole class and it looked like all the kids in the class where having fun and doing what they needed to be doing.  After we watched all the movies we got back on the bus back to school just in time for lunch.
